Brief
This substantial house had previously been extended to provide an integral garage and kitchen/utility room in a single storey extension. Our client required an enlarged kitchen/breakfast area with good connection to the rear garden and a new family bathroom, master bedroom and en-suite/dressing room at first floor level.
Response
We proposed the entire removal of the original flat/pitched roof over the previous single storey extension and its replacement with a new first floor/roof arrangement. The new volume created was designed to ensure the enlarged house presented a visually coherent whole. The existing open entrance porch was extended to form an attractive verandah which further bonds the new and existing parts together. The large master bedroom features a ‘vaulted’ ceiling with rooflights.
